SFTEP: Bus upgrade to Union St. stirs struggilng businesses
The SFTEP project plans to upgrade the 41-Union line to 60′ articulated buses during the 5am to 9am rush hour, saving the SFMTA $300,000 a year and boosting the number of riders a single driver can transport. The downside is that Union St. businesses will lose parking spots and fear that the loss of parking will impact their business during this deep recession.
Local businesses have collected 500 signatures to petition the bus upgrades. The SFMTA will vote on the issue September 1st. (story also via sfcitizen and sf.curbed)
Ok, so why do they have to move the terminus in front of that hotel?
MUNI needs to offer an alternative on the terminus so the parking loss would be more palatable. Because losing $40,000 in hotel taxes is bad.
And why is the loss of ONE parking space per bus stop that needs to be lengthened such a big deal?
Quaint? Too noisy? That’s like saying the only slightly smaller buses are actually quiet. There is no difference in the noise due to the size of the bus. I guarantee either one will wake you up if you’re sensitive to it.
Is Katherine behind this nutiness?
This is totally ridiculous and I hope the citizens lose and cry and become tortured with paranoia at the thought of being hunted by “Bush Administration Nazis Within MUNI” or some other kind of imaginary victim bubble fantasy that irrelevant people think themselves important enough to have.
$300K is a lot of money to save.
How else are we going to pay for the bamboo and recycled hemp Healing Center for Hurt Feelings and the shiny crystal ball light catchers that MUST be handed out of everybody to spin around, while high, in celebration of some imaginary cultural holiday practiced by a “tribe of magic mushroom users that are indigenously caucasian”?
