Welcome to RESCUE MUNI

Another day, another Muni mishap. Riding San Francisco's public transit system would test the patience of a saint. Yet the system is potentially one of the best in the country. What went wrong?

We're a group of frustrated riders who figure that someone has got to speak up for common sense. We hope you'll join us, attend one of our meetings, volunteer on one of our committees, and help out as we call on City Hall to see things from the riders' perspective -- for once.

• Muni Riders' Survey Results:
  • 1999 Muni Riders' Survey ... slight improvement from 1998, with Muni scoring a C with 24.5% of riders delayed. Light rail showed the biggest improvement.
  • Fall 1998 Muni Metro Survey ... Muni Metro on-time performance improved slightly, but crowding was a big problem. The system was graded C overall, with all above-ground lines graded D or F.
  • 1998 Muni Riders' Survey ... we measured Muni performance independently in February 1998 and found that Muni has not significantly improved. Muni Metro was a particular problem.
  • 1997 Muni Riders' Survey ... last year's numbers.
• Proposed Service Standards ... our Standards Committee came up with these common-sense standards for Muni reliability and customer service. (The Steering Committee approved them in January 1999.)
