General Meeting 4/27 with Sean Elsbernd on “Fix Muni Now” Amendment
Mark your calendar for our next General Meeting on Tuesday, April 27, at 6:30 pm, at the Harvey Milk Arts Center in Duboce Park. Supervisor Elsbernd will discuss his proposed charter amendment (endorsed by our board) to revise the City Charter to remove the wage minimum for MTA operators, and also to set new rules regarding arbitration of work rules and wages. We have also invited a representative from the Transport Workers Union to explain why they are in opposition.
The Daily Report Sunday 18 showed ELEVEN buses not out on Mission Street Sat PM. It seems that Potrero is the current absenteeism champion. Maybe it is time to abolish division crews, it is after a small city. Certainly the premium for working a different route has to go. The other work rule that has to go is the premium for ‘no leader’. Not only does having this in the contract show that the problem is longstanding, but removing it might encourage a little conversation between the drivers.
Definitely. You have to think there’s some sketchy behavior going on here, with missed runs leading to more premiums being paid.
As a new driver, I don’t mind the removal of the pay formula. As to work rules, they are not as flexible as reported. SF weekly said a driver can just not show up for work and get paid. That is simply not true. It is called a missout. Not only does the driver not get paid, but they can also be suspended. The comment about premium for no “leader” that’s not true either.
The true aim of this is to turn MUNI operator into a part time position so the city won’t have to pay any benefits to. This is an attack on labor. The people funding fix muni now are big business..SF Chamber of Commerce and SPUR. They are both anti labor.
To sum up, Being a MUNI operator is the hardest job I have ever had. I like being a service to the public and being a in an integral part of keeping the wheels turning in our great city.
